New Teensy 3.1!!
The new Teensy sports a beefier processor that doubles the flash memory for programs and quadruples the ram! It is also faster. Running at 72 MHz now instead of 48 MHz, and still has the overclock at 96 MHz.
The new Teensy also sports a 12 bit DAC that now occupies the RESET connection. That's awesome for generating waveforms, but I was a little disappointed that there wasn't two. Yeah, for stereo audio out! Anyway, there are other features, but the memory and speed was enough for me. Now I can move the 3.0 to the role of sending serial commands to the 3.1 and start seeing what my code can do under serious traffic pressure. After all, I can only type so fast on the laptop. Now I can program the commands and loop them for some serious testing!
GOAL: Replace Teensy 3.0 in the design. Take advantage of faster speed, bigger memory, and extra peripherals!
THE STAGE: Dell n7100 quad core laptop, Teensy 3.0, Teensy 3.1, Kootek® BT2S Bluetooth to Serial Slave RS232 TTL UART Module Board for Arduino, Cable Matters 2 Pack, Gold Plated Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Type A to Micro-B Cable 6 Feet, PuTTY terminal program.
END RESULT: Serial communications feeding test bed to supply project with programmed commands from another embedded board and not the laptop.
After I am done testing, I can pull the 3.0 and place it in another sister project that will control WS2812 LED modules on our mini-wreaths hanging silent, unlit, and boring basically under our driveway lanterns.
The rest of all this will branch off the BLUETOOTH blog posts.
And that's for another blog. Stay tuned!
More when I design and code it.
