I have acquired 10 x nRF24L01 modules and have started my link tests with this new tech. So far, I have been able to send and receive packets between two Arduino Pro Mini 328 (5v 16 MHz) boards but I haven't ported the test data to the serial ports yet. When that happens, I will be able to link my embedded subsystems via wireless 2.4 GHz links without using the home wifi network.
Why? Well I can think of several reasons why, but for what I am doing with the SBEC project, it is mostly a development convenience and feature. When the display module and daemon RPi module are completed, the serial connections will be wired and short and on the same project mounting board. For now though, as I further develop command structure and interactive features, it is nice to be able to connect the serial links via these wireless links, so I can develop code on my back patio, out in the open, with my target system next to me, and yet have a connection to the main project network without running a large length of bundled bus wire.
So, the end result of this sub-project is to connect serial channels from/to the main project and the remote subsystem without wires. So far, so good.
More when I discover it.
